In recent days, I encountered a perplexing issue while trying to create a new email using the Hide My Email feature in the Mail app on my MacBook Pro. I was greeted with an unexpected message: “Email Address Limit Reached. You have the maximum number of email addresses. Go to System Preferences to delete one before creating another.” This was particularly confusing given that I am an iCloud+ subscriber, a status which supposedly comes with an unlimited number of email addresses for this feature.
Determined to resolve the issue, I reached out to several Apple advisors. They all assured me that there was no limit to the number of email addresses one could create with Hide My Email for iCloud+ subscribers. Their advice was to wait for about an hour and then attempt to create the email again. Unfortunately, even after waiting much longer than suggested, the problem persisted.
Eventually, I escalated the issue and managed to speak with a Senior Advisor at Apple. To my surprise, he revealed that I was the first customer he had encountered who had used 750 email addresses. He clarified that 750 is, in fact, the maximum limit for the Hide My Email feature. The advisor recommended using apple.com/feedback to request an increase in this limit.
While it was somewhat comforting to finally understand the root cause of the issue, the revelation was a double-edged sword. On one hand, I now had clarity and could take steps to address the problem. On the other hand, it was disappointing to learn that there is a cap on the number of email addresses, which I had not anticipated. Nonetheless, this experience highlights the importance of clear communication and the need for Apple to possibly reconsider and expand the limits for their dedicated users.
