Google has unveiled its newest “doodle,” and there’s a touching story behind it. Sophie Araque-Liu, 16, won this year’s Doodle for Google contest with a design that shows the Florida student hugging her mother.
Araque-Liu won a $30,000 college scholarship, and her school will receive a $50,000 technology award.
The contest’s theme: self-care. “I care for myself by accepting others’ care for me,” Araque-Liu wrote. “Often, I struggle to shoulder a burden on my own and forget that I have so many people, like my mom, who care about me and want to help me.”
Google also spotlighted the work of Alithia Haven Ramirez, 10, who was killed in the massacre at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
